.... Ontology/Semantic Web - another brittle and pointless
classification mechanism that won't scale.

hmm - but in a Dialogue System the comms are always ultimately human to human and should go through a minimun translation steps - so I find it difficult to see how a hard-to-fathom ontology (the domain of 'experts') would help. as Chris would say... DISCUSS ...

Half-baked IdeasPosted by Nigel Green Mon, May 12, 2008 07:42:24Note to self - develop the idea
that the VPEC-T framework provides the sort of 'light constraint'
that David tells us is necessary for an Adaptive System to work. This
promotes experimentation and encourages emergent behaviour.
Half-baked IdeasPosted by Nigel Green Sun, May 11, 2008 15:36:30What they say about themselves:
"Cognitive Edge is focused on rejuvenating management practices to better equip organisations when addressing intractable problems or seizing new opportunities in uncertain and complex situations. [ng: sound familiar? ]
Where traditional approaches have failed to deliver success, Cognitive Edge techniques enable the emergence of fresh and insightful solutions seen from multiple perspectives. Cognitive Edge solutions, comprised of open source methods, original research and the Cognitive Edge SenseMakerâ„¢ Software Suite, are delivered through the Cognitive Edge Network. The Cognitive Edge Network is a widely dispersed, cohesive Network of experienced professionals in private and public sector organisations from diverse disciplines with deep-rooted experience in both business and science. It includes academics and practitioners, in house and commercial consultants. Membership of the Network is attained through participation in an Accreditation programme." [ng: I wonder if we might one day have a VPEC-T AP?] .
Definately worth visiting their site - meeting Dave Snowden on Monday. I've watched the Durham Business school video twice now! ttfn n.

Half-baked IdeasPosted by Nigel Green Sun, April 27, 2008 13:59:20Should we have another meeting soon - any ideas about an agenda? Should we invite others?
Half-baked IdeasPosted by Nigel Green Sun, April 27, 2008 13:30:26If Information Systems are both Software (Hardware) and Wetware then how should we consider the development of the Web? Should we be thinking about the Web as a Database or should we be thinking about the Web as a nervous system which has both organic and inorganic parts.
